Depending on the tumor bed, the radiation oncologist will select the preferred size, shape or style of applicator to best match the target. AccuBoost shielded tungsten applicators come in two basic shapes, round and an ovoid “D” shape. Additionally, some applicators also include internal conical shields that reduce the skin dose (Skin Dose Optimized SDO) and/or reduce the treatment time (Dose Rate Optimized DRO).
