About Us
Our History
Advanced Radiation Therapy was founded by Dr. Piran Sioshansi and Raymond Bricault in 2005 to transform the treatment of early-stage breast cancer. As concluded in a landmark paper by Dr. Rashmi Benda, it was abundantly clear that traditional breast conservation radiation therapies were falling short. Working with some of the best minds in Radiation Oncology, the founders sought to develop a radical new approach to targeting radiation therapy to breast cancer patients. The AccuBoost Technique was built on three technological pillars as defined by our medical advisors and implemented by our team:
3 Pillars of Design
1. CONFIDENCE:
Deliver radiation accurately utilizing real-time image guidance
2. CONFORMALITY:
Minimize the total volume of tissue exposed to high doses of radiation
3. CONTROL OF DOSE:
Reduce and control dose to healthy tissue namely: the skin, chest wall, heart, and lungs
Since FDA clearance in 2006, AccuBoost Applicators have been instrumental for enabling thousands of patients across the United States to benefit from the AccuBoost Technique. Many clinics have published their results, commonly referring to the AccuBoost Technique, as the AccuBoost Procedure, Non-Invasive Breast Brachytherapy(NIBB), the AccuBoost Treatment, or, in some cases, simply as AccuBoost. Various publications describe the treatment being delivered for the boost portion of Whole Breast Irradiation (WBI) or for Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation (APBI).
“See what they treat, treat what they see”
The “AccuBoost advantage” is the concept that treatment centers are able to avoid “missing the target” by using a common platform for real-time imaging and treatment. The AccuBoost Technique allows delivery of the therapeutic dose to the target areas while reducing skin, heart and lung dose. AccuBoost allows the Radiation Oncologist to “See what they treat, treat what they see” in ways not previously available.
Based just outside Boston in the Massachusetts technology belt, we have access to the best resources available in medical device technology and are committed to innovation in breast cancer care, one patient at a time.
Our Mission
The AccuBoost team is dedicated exclusively to patients choosing breast conservation therapy (BCT). We are a team of scientists, engineers and healthcare professionals who strive to deliver the most accurate and efficient technology for every woman fighting early-stage breast cancer. We pride ourselves on integrating our best ideas, input from caregivers as well as listening to patients to continuously improve our technology.
